Dr. Craig B. Morgenthal , MD, FACS

Dr. Craig B. Morgenthal is a Board Certified General Surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons who specializes in minimally invasive surgery of the gastrointestinal tract and abdomen. He studied pre-med at the University of Texas at Austin before attending the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University and completing Residency at State University of New York Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. Dr. Morgenthal completed a two-year research and clinical fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta.

Dr. Morgenthal has advanced training in laparoscopic (minimally invasive) surgery of the gastrointestinal tract and abdomen.  He specializes in bariatric (weight loss) surgery, heartburn and swallowing disorders and anti-reflux surgery. He also performs laparoscopic hernia repair, gallbladder removal, colorectal surgery, and adrenal and spleen removal.

Dr. Morgenthal remains active in clinical research, working with the Jacksonville Center for Clinical Research and serving as a reviewer for the Journal of Laparoendoscopic and Advanced Surgical Techniques. He has presented at several national meetings, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.

Dr. Morgenthal’s favorite part of his job is educating patients and helping them through a major event in their life, and guiding them back to health and wellness. When he’s not at the hospital or in the operating room, Dr. Morgenthal enjoys spending time with family, going to the beach, scuba diving and reading. He’s also a dedicated Jacksonville Jaguars, Texas Longhorns and New York Yankees fan.
